Booked this place for a Sunday lunch for 7 and we were all pleasantly surprised. We also shared a fascination with astronomy - which often led us to drive for hours at night trying to find the darkest possible locations for stargazing. Overall 5 food 5 service 5 ambience 5.

Seared tofu, potato, carrots, sweet peppers braised in a creamy coconut-curry tangy sauce served over rice and cilantro. Chunk chicken thighs fillet, potato, carrots and sweet pepper braised in a creamy coconut-curry tangy sauce served over white rice and fresh cilantro. All of our tacos are served in fresh hand made corn tortillas made to order.

Grilled flank steak layered with chipotle aioli, jack cheese, avocado, grilled onions on french roll served with green salad. This was a horrible experience from the moment we walked in.. The music was so loud Wonderful restaurant, a Latin cuisine with a twist. The ceviche was amazing.

Note -- they do not take Open Table reservations! If you book through Open Table it will not get to the restaurant, even if you get a confirmation from Open Table. Call them directly. The food was wonderful, the setting somewhat exotic, and quiet. We could hear each other and enjoyed all of it! The menu has so many interesting options that I always have a hard time choosing.

However, regardless of my choice, I've never been disappointed. The food has always been very tasty and generous portions. The spinach salad was crisp, cool and not overdressed. The "specials"for the night offered a unique take on their more traditional counterparts.

Service was for the most part attentive. Overall, an enjoyable dining experience. My husband and I wanted to try somewhere new for our date night. I had read about LaVier and saw there were mixed reviews. We decided to try it for ourselves. I am happy that we did!

The ambience was fun. It reminded us of our honeymoon in Cozumel. The menu was full of interesting items to choose from. We had the tempura oysters to start - so very creative and delicious! I had a cup of tortilla soup which came piping hot and was good.

The trio of fish tacos and did not disappoint nor did the chicken enchiladas with mole sauce.

We will definitely be going back! The food was incredibly fresh and tasty. The service was OK. They seemed a bit short staffed. Overall we had a very enjoyable dining experience. A hidden gem in San Rafael! Great food, great ambience, great service and much more. Absolutely love the food! The Corn Canoe was the perfect starter.

Went with a friend and fell in love with the place. I highly recommend it! The food was good but the service was terrible. The waitress seemed to forget us several times during the night, and we were twice asked if we wanted dessert before our dinner was served. They just seemed disorganized. This is a very casual, quaint place to eat and the food is delicious.

Very friendly employees that make you feel at home and go above and beyond to make your experience worth your while. I would recommend this restaurant to any and everyone. My wife and I will frequent this restaurant going forward. Our server was the owner Gabrielle and what a sweetheart. I was pleasantly surprised!

The ceviche was clean and made perfectly, the Cesar salad was huge and tasty, the Ropa Vieja while a lil on the tomato heavy side for my taste;was full of flavor, the black beans were also done well. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommended this lil gem. What a nice surprise! Right in the middle of downtown San Rafael. Plenty of nearby parking.

Ambiance was noisy but interesting. Seating is pretty tight, so if you're looking for privacy, this is probably not a good choice. Service and food were wonderful and there were creative vegetarian options. I will definitely be back. We enjoyed our meal very much. There were four of us and we all enjoyed what we had ordered.

Wait staff was inexperienced though. Our server was with us in the beginning then did not come back to see if we needed something or if everything was satisfactory. We had to find a server to get a dessert menu then flag someone down to actually order it. However, we will go back as the food was very good and perhaps service will be better on another night or during the day.

Service was extremely slow and inattentive; the server did not communicate with us as to why our order took almost an hour to arrive. The food is mediocre, the decor is semi tacky, and we will not return. I have been here four or five times. This restaurant has a sweet, homey country latin vibe. The tables are all set up a little differently, and it is charming and cozy and colorful.

I love what the owners have done with the various hangings, plants and decor. Yes, sometimes at lunch there is only one person hosting and waiting tables and it can be a bit of a wait to get that first drink and order. But I have found that I just know that and try to chill and let the slower pace be part of the charm.

If you are polite and smile, the waitress I usually seem to see will warm right up to you and do a very nice job. I just love the food and would say that 3 out of 4 dishes are outstanding and the other 1 is very good, just not something that I have never seen anywhere. I didn't see that "boat" they used to have on the menu, but maybe we were talking too much and I wasn't really concentrating.

I really love that though and hope it's still an offering. La Vier has become a favorite place to meet my near and dear friends, partially because it's central to all of us and because parking is pretty easy. Don't miss the "used" book store across the street on your way out, I always find something there.

We all love the creative appetizers, entrees and specials. This is Latin Fusion. This time we ordered the chicken tostaditos app, which we both loved. Basically 4 mini tostadas which was a generous portion. My friend had the relleno off the menu which was delicious, but I had a prawns special with a guava lime glaze served over a green rice that we both agreed was something special.

Honestly, we had enough food for one more person. Retrieved from " https: Hidden categories: Namespaces Article Talk. Views Read Edit View history. Like sure I get it's scripted, but it's supposed to be somewhat real right?
